UL Lafayette's former presidents honored with portraits

During its first 108 years, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette had just five presidents. To put that in perspective, Dr. Joseph Savoie, UL Lafayette’s sixth and current president, noted Thursday that the average tenure of a university president in the United States today is seven years.

Having had only five presidents in over 100 years gave UL Lafayette “tremendous stability,” Savoie said during an unveiling of portraits of the former presidents.

Groundbreaking celebrates $2.5 million gift for Maraist Financial Services Lab

The B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration broke ground Wednesday for a facility that will help its students gain real-world business experience without leaving the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.

A $2.5 million gift from Lafayette businessman Michael P. Maraist, a 1971 business administration graduate, will fund the initial construction of the Maraist Financial Services Lab.

Home Run Challenge: Fundraising campaign knocks it out of the park

The Home Run Challenge, a fundraising campaign for M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park, reached home plate two weeks early.

Dr. Bryan Maggard, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns director of athletics, made the announcement Monday but reminded fans that the Home Run Challenge isn't over. Donations will be accepted until Aug. 15.

The campaign received support from 502 donors and achieved a total of $100,000 in challenge gifts, surpassing the goal organizers set when the fundraiser began in late March.
